FIRST ECO-FRIENDLY AUCTION WEBSITE LAUNCHED

NEW YORK, New York, December 2, 2008- BigGreenCart.com, a Green auction, classifieds, and swap website dedicated to environmentally friendly goods and services, is celebrating its official launch this month as it opens its portal to new buyers, sellers and customers who are interested in barter and trade. It made its first debut at the San Francisco Green Festival last weekend, where it garnered interest from other Green market newbies and established businesses alike.

The site, first conceived just over a year ago by BigGreenCart Founder Jean Moné, aims to facilitate the sale of environmentally friendly items from both businesses and individuals, while also providing a place for Green trade- an idea that is essentially "Green" in and of itself by the enactment of the "chasing arrows" philosophy of reduce, reuse and recycle.

Says Ms. Moné, "In a time where our environment’s failing health is increasingly in the news and on everyone’s minds, I felt that a site of this nature was absolutely necessary. Being Eco-Friendly doesn’t have to be complicated or out-of-reach, and BigGreenCart upholds this idea by being at everyone’s fingertips with the click of a mouse.”

BigGreenCart is definitely forging a new frontier for environmentally conscious commerce, appealing to both the convenience of the internet to a majority of today's populace, and also to the empowerment of a truly green system of trade. Moné adds, “This site is definitely intended to be a place where the Green community can support one another, but is also inviting to anyone who is interested in becoming more eco-friendly since the premise [of purchasing through auctions and classifieds] is relatively familiar.”

And aside from these familiar routes of commerce, BigGreenCart is also introducing a barter and trade option, something that the company feels is going to blossom in the increasingly-eco-conscious future. This new platform is only part of what distinguishes BigGreenCart from all of the other e-commerce sites on the web. The theory of auction and trade, for example, encourages the re-use of items, and the reduction of the excess waste created when purchasing a brand new item from a store elsewhere. This is part of what makes BigGreenCart truly Green from top to bottom; while the items being sold, bought and traded are eco-friendly, the processes through which they’re being vended are environmentally-friendly as well.

Buyers on the website can sort through auctions that are hosted by both established businesses and individuals, classified listings at set prices, and trade-friendly listings that seek to use the barter system to evaluate a fair trade of goods, sans-capital. Sellers have the opportunity to list any environmentally-friendly item that they might be looking to sell, from natural body care products to recycled office supplies and more. While pre-used items are deemed Green simply for the fact that they are being re-used instead of thrown in the landfills, all new items sold on the site must be completely eco-friendly by complying with organic, recycled, or fair trade standards. Sellers can also opt to have their listing restricted to local buyers to reduce the cost, and carbon footprint, of shipping.

The site also features a comprehensive (and constantly-updated) Green Glossary to provide the public with an ever-growing Green dictionary, as well as its own Blog which highlights the latest eco-issues, tips on being and staying eco-aware, and their favorite Green products and services from time to time.

Of course, the business itself also operates with the environment in mind. Recycled paper, soy based inks and carbon-offset purchases are all part of the way that BigGreenCart runs.

"I recommend this virtual green shopping experience to anyone who wants to score great products while contributing to an eco world. And for the holidays, what's better than auctioning off or buying a gift that will keep on giving?”, says Rachel Shelasky, President of Hollywood Fourth, a New York-based screen printing company that is increasingly introducing Green printing into it’s lexicon.

You can stop by and browse the site yourself by visiting www.BigGreenCart.com, and say hello to the newest eco-frontier the web has to offer!
